BolJao ("we", "us", "our", "App", "Service") operates the BolJao passenger app and BolJao Partner driver app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using BolJao, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

1.1 Account information
   - Name, mobile number, and authentication data (OTP-based login)
   - Optional profile details such as photo, bio, and ride preferences
   - For drivers (BolJao Partner): driving licence and vehicle registration documents you upload for verification

1.2 Location information
   - Foreground location (while you use the app): used to show nearby rides/requests and relevant places
   - Background location: collected only when you actively start Emergency SOS, so we can share your live location with your selected emergency contacts even if the app is in the background
   - We do not track your location continuously when you are not using the app and SOS is not active

1.3 Contacts
   - If you grant contacts permission, you may pick trusted emergency contacts from your address book
   - We store only the contacts you choose to save as emergency contacts

1.4 Device and notifications
   - Push notification device tokens (to send ride and account notifications)
   - Basic device/platform information needed to deliver notifications securely

1.5 Usage and ride data
   - Trip listings, trip requests, bookings, offers, and related status updates you create or accept
   - In-app messages and support-related information you submit

1.6 Media you upload
   - Profile photos and (for drivers) licence / vehicle images you choose to upload

2. HOW WE USE INFORMATION

We use your information to:
   - Provide carpooling features (search, list, book, accept offers)
   - Verify accounts and (for drivers) licence / vehicle documents where required
   - Send transactional notifications about rides, offers, and account activity
   - Enable Emergency SOS: call your contact and share live location with trusted contacts while SOS is active
   - Improve reliability, security, and customer support
   - Comply with applicable law

We do not sell your personal information.

3. SHARING OF INFORMATION

We may share information with:
   - Other users as needed for a ride (e.g. trip details you publish, limited profile info relevant to a booking)
   - Your selected emergency contacts during an active SOS session (including live location updates)
   - Service providers who process data for us (hosting, SMS/OTP, push notifications), under confidentiality obligations
   - Authorities when required by law or to protect safety and rights

4. LOCATION AND EMERGENCY SOS (IMPORTANT)

BolJao collects location data to enable Emergency SOS live sharing with your trusted contacts when you activate SOS, even when the app is in the background.

Background location is:
   - Used only for active SOS sessions you start
   - Stopped when you cancel SOS
   - Not used for advertising or continuous silent tracking

You can deny background location; core ride features that need location while the app is open may still work with foreground permission only. SOS live sharing requires background location on Android.

5. DATA RETENTION

We retain account and ride records as long as your account is active and as needed for legal, security, and operational purposes. You may request account deletion by contacting support. Some records may be retained where required by law.

6. SECURITY

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Please protect your device and do not share OTPs.

7. YOUR CHOICES

You may:
   - Update profile and emergency contacts in the app
   - Change or revoke location, contacts, camera, and notification permissions in device settings
   - Stop SOS at any time from the SOS screen
   - Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion where applicable under Indian law

8. CHILDREN

BolJao is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. CHANGES

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
